I am very excited to announce the introduction of In Light Wellness Systems Low Level Light Therapy as part of my practice.

Light influences our body, mind and spirit as expressed in our physical health, our moods, our perceptions and our energy levels. Light of specific wavelengths works synergistically with the human organism in many ways. It supports many chemical conversions and can stimulate chemical reactions in the body to maintain health and well-being. Light is not just important for us — light is important for all life.

Light therapy using the In Light Wellness Systems involves the use of light emitting diodes (LEDs) delivering a combination of red, blue and near infrared light to the skin, muscles, joints and bones. Light therapy has been shown to increase circulation directly and also by boosting the formation of capillaries which deliver more oxygen at the sites of treatment to speed up healing. Light Therapy helps to stimulate the body’s natural and innate ability to heal itself.

What it is~

In Light Wellness Systems is a photo-modulated (pulsed, light emitting diodes) device also known as low level light energy (LLLT). In Light Wellness Systems uses light  to bring the body into balance by reducing pain and increasing circulation. They combine Red,Blue and Infrared LED's set in flexible, neoprene pads, with versatile controllers that use a carefully timed sequence of settings (pulses) to encourage change to occur more rapidly.

Light therapy has been established as a useful tool to: Increase vascularity (circulation) by increasing the formation of new capillaries, which are additional blood vessels that replace damaged ones. New capillaries speed up the healing process by carrying more oxygen as well as more nutrients needed for healing and they can also carry more waste products away.

Stimulate the production of collagen: Collagen is the most common protein found in the body. Collagen is the essential protein used to repair damaged tissue and to replace old tissue. It is the substance that holds cells together and has a high degree of elasticity. By increasing collagen production less scar tissue is formed at the damaged site.

Stimulate the release of adenosine triphosphate (ATP): ATP is the major carrier of energy to all cells. Increases in ATP allow cells to accept nutrients faster and get rid of waste products faster by increasing the energy level in the cell. All food turns into ATP before the cells utilize it. ATP provides the chemical energy that drives the chemical reaction of the cell.

Increase lymphatic system activity: Edema, which is the swelling or natural splinting process of the body, has two basic components. The first is a liquid part, which can be evacuated by the blood system, and the second is comprised of the proteins that have to be evacuated by the lymphatic system. Research has shown that the lymph vessel diameter and the flow of the lymph system can be doubled with the use of light therapy. The venous diameter and the arterial diameters can also be increased. This means that both parts of oedema (liquid and protein) can be evacuated at a much faster rate to relieve swelling.

Reduce the excitability of nervous tissue: The photons of light energy enter the body as negative ions. This calls upon the body to send positive ions, like calcium among others, to go to the area being treated. These ions assist in firing the nerves thereby relieving pain.

Stimulate fibroblastic activity that aids in the repair process: Fibroblasts are present in connective tissue and are capable of forming collagen fibres.

Increase phagocytosis: The process of scavenging for an ingesting dead or degenerated cells by phagocyte cells for the purpose of clean up. This is an important part of the infection fighting process. Destruction of the infection and clean up must occur before the healing process can take place.

Induce a thermal like effect in the tissue: The light raises the temperature of the cells through a photochemical reaction.

Stimulate tissue granulation and connective tissue projections: Part of the healing process of wounds, ulcers or inflamed tissues.

Stimulate acetylcholine release: Acetylcholine causes cardiac inhibition, vasodilation, gastrointestinal peristalsis and other parasympathetic effects.

Cupping Massage~

An ancient technique that has found its place in the modern world of healing. Massage cupping is a modified version of the common practice of cupping therapy, used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the results that this simple treatment produces are impressive.  Through suction and negative pressure, massage cupping releases rigid soft tissue, drains excess fluids and toxins, loosen adhesions and lifts connective tissue, and brings flood flow to stagnant skin and muscles.

Geriatric Massage~

Growing old isn't for sissies... so my elderly clients tell me. Geriatric massage focuses on the special needs and concerns of the elderly and is particularly valuable for the aches and pains associated with growing older. Sessions vary in length and discounts apply. Please ask for details!

Swedish Massage~
The most familiar type of massage therapy,Swedish massage utilizes long smoothing strokes, compression, and kneading to reduce stress, improve circulation, and relax the entire body.

Hot Stone massage~

Total indulgence! You have to experience this unique massage treatment to believe it.  Heated stones are incorporated into a therapeutic massage session.  The heat from the stones helps to warm and loosen tight muscles, leaving you feeling incredibly relaxed.

(Add hot stones to any session for an additional $5.00)

More than just a foot massage, reflexology is a time honored science that works by applying pressure to specific points and zones on your feet, hands, and ears.  Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflex zones of energy that run throughout the body and correspond  to all of the glands, organs and other systems of the body.  Stimulating these points with finger or thumb pressure balances the body's energy.

Pregnancy Massage~

Mothers to be need massage more than anyone.  Schedule your appointment today and get relief from stress, muscles cramps, spasms,  and myofascial pain. A comforting mother massage can help reduce the physical and emotional strains that happen before the baby arrives.

  Reiki~ ("Ray-kee")

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Force".  It is a gentle yet profound method of healing and stress reduction that focuses on the energy that flows within everyone.   When this energy is disrupted or unbalanced, physical and emotional illness can occur.  A Reiki session involves gentle "laying of hands" on or above your body with the intention of creating a feeling of peace, calmness, and sense of well being.  No oils or lotions are used in this gentle, comforting practice.

 Shiatsu on the table -- Tui-Na  ~ (pronounced "two-ween-a")

Shiatsu (shi·at·zu) is an ancient healing therapy that originated in China and was further developed in Japan.   It’s a form of bodywork that recognizes that our bodies are made up of more than just our outer physical self.  We are also made up of energy.  Energy, known as Chi or Ki  (pronounced "chee"), flows through the body in channels called meridians.  For many reasons, chi can become blocked and stop flowing efficiently.  Shiatsu, which means "finger-pressure" is a gently therapy using the palms, thumbs and fingers to deliver pressure to the meridians along with gentle stretches to unblock energy and restore health.

Tui-Na means 'push-pull' or 'push-grasp' and involves pushing or pulling "chi" from around the body.  It is a combination of rocking, shaking and sweeping the meridians and can soothe, heal and energize the entire body.  Clients are fully dressed in comfortable loose fitting clothing and this type of massage is done on the massage table.
